  • Poor UI options out of the box

GameGuru provides one of the most user-friendly interfaces for game development around. By eschewing traditional coding languages for a more visual-oriented and less technically specific interface, creatives can hit the ground running with their ideas without having to learn programming logic and syntax.

Low- or no-coding game development software certainly isn't a new thing, but few platforms have proven to be as lightweight as GameGuru. The majority of development can be handled with a simple drag-and-drop interface. That means new developers can get their idea to completion smoothly, and more experienced developers can use it as a rapid way to sketch up a jam game or prototype something more complicated.

What's more impressive is that GameGuru makes such a simplified interface work with a 3D engine. Environments can be developed by simply clicking environmental pieces together. Other game assets like characters and obstacles can be handled in the same way, and both a terrain and a building editor are designed with ease of use in mind. Players can essentially paint the landscapes, simply adding layers and texture to create more sophisticated environments for the player.

The functionality here is a bit simplified, but its strengths are bolstered by an expansive assets library. If you don't have a gift for 3D art, there are plenty of options for you to choose from for free. And while GameGuru isn't backed by a heavy programming language, there is some flexibility in building out game logic and features. Lua scripts can be embedded directly into the game for more sophisticated content.

However complex you decide to get with your game design, you don't have to stress about deployment. All you have to do is click a button to have your game compiled and uploaded to Steam for testing by players.
